Product Description

The Elasto-Gel Contoured Wheelchair cushions, slightly thicker by .25" than the standard and with added high density foam, are constructed with a layer of soft polymer gel covered with a breathable, 4-way stretch fabric. This gel is layered with a contoured piece of open-cell urethane foam and the gel thickness is 3/8Ó with extra gel padding of 3/4Ó under each ischial bone. The cushionÕs entire surface has a smooth soft feel, with no lumps, creases, or hard areas. The soft Elasto-Gel lets your body sink into the gel with gentle resistance. It is like sitting on thousands of tiny balloons, which gently push back to hold your body weight. The uniquely formulated soft gel reduces the pressure on your Òsitting bonesÓ by dispersing your weight over a larger area. Reduced pressure allows better circulation of blood to all parts of the body. Elasto-Gel also acts as a heat sink. Because the cushion has large heat capacity, a nearly constant temperature is maintained. When the cushion is kept at room temperature, near 70¡ F, or less it is ideally cool for the body and therefore the perspiration rate is low. A lower perspiration rate and the vapor transmission properties of the gel and fabric help keep the body dry and comfortable. Dermal irritation caused by fungal infections and wet skin is also reduced. Elasto-Gel cushions are provided with an expanded PVC plastic insert. The insert is recommended to use on the bottom of the wheelchair seat or inserted into the cushion cover (under the cushion) to help prevent the ÒhammockÓ or Òsinking effectÓ of your cushion. Having a stable base will provide stability and help prevent leg rotation.
